Powder Metallurgy Parts

The term “Powder metal parts” refers broadly to any solid metal parts made through a process known as “Powder metallurgy” which involves metal pressed into powder form.

Powder Metallurgy is an efficient, advanced, versatile, highly repetitive, low cost and green environmental (by avoiding secondary finishing operations) manufacturing technique utilised to produce net shape or near net shape parts for customers requiring relatively large quantities of high quality, consistently dimensioned, close tolerance parts for both ferrous and non-ferrous.

Bronze, Steel, Iron, Brass, Copper and Aluminium are just few of the many metals that can be converted to powder and undergo metallurgy process.

Powder are fed into die and compacted under pressure (upto 60,000 psi). The resulting shapes are then sintered in a furnace (Temperature upto 2050o F) to bond the particle together metallurgically. The process utilises 97% of powder and produces very little waste.

Powder Metallurgy parts are proven alternative to cast, forged or machined parts in many applications such as appliance industry, farm machinery, marine industry, garden machinery and automobile industry.

One can customise design ferrous and non-ferrous parts to control strength, hardness, density and permeability. The use of pre alloyed powders eliminates segregation and other defects associated with castings. Smooth Superior surface finish is added advantage over casted, forged parts finish.

A few of the Powder Metallurgy advantages for Auto parts production include-

1) Ability to produce material at a higher density and structure.

2) Capable of producing increasingly complex parts.

3) Cost effective manufacturing of auto components.

Application in automobile industry include but not limited to-

· Steering Component
